It's been a long time since I've posted! But this definitely deserves to be the first post to restart my blog writing!
LEONARDO DICAPRIO WON AN OSCAR!!!! I think it's been a long time coming. I haven't seen 'The Revenant' (2015, Alejandro González Iñárritu), but from what others have told me it is an amazing and Oscar worthy film!
Based on my knowledge of Leo's previous performances (Most notable 'Shutter Island' (2010, Martin Scorsese) and 'The Wolf Of Wall Street' (2013, Martin Scorsese)). He truly deserves an Oscar! However, looking back at the years where he has missed out, I still believe that the lead actors that have won the awards definitely deserved them, it just so happened that those years it wasn't Dicaprio's moment.
Best Lead Actress went to Brie Larson for 'Room' (2015, Lenny Abrahamson) Now again, I haven't seen this film either - in fact my cinema attendance has dropped dramatically recently! (I did however go to watch 'Deadpool' (2016, Tim Miller) a couple of weeks ago, but I think that deserves a post of it's own!)
'The Revenant' also won best cinematography, I was informed that one of the most believable shocking scenes involved a bear so this was one of the award winners I predicted correctly !
One of the more interesting winners for me was for the Best Documentary - 'Amy' (2015, Asif Kapadia). Like a broken record, I also have not seen the full film, however I have seen the final scenes, the last 15 minutes of the film and even that was enough to bring tears to my eyes. I have spoken before about Kapadia's film 'Senna' (2010). The use of archival footage throughout brings a strong sense of realism to his films which for me creates a much greater emotional response. You are invited to watch someones life, a person who's life impacted the world greatly. This for me is one of the most effective ways of film making and I hope to have viewed the whole film soon.
